I noticed that someone had been putting blue masking tape on the pulls. To help ID pulls, setouts, and stays; I bought some I-beam (5-279 3/8″) that just fits over HO roof walks.
Red and gray spray paint was used in addition to white unpainted beams so each town would have them available (I still have to design and make trays.)
For the main yard, I sprayed clear flat on the I-beams so acrylic paint would stick. Then each track got its own color. A decal sheet was made with track numbers and cut into strips. Each I-beam was decaled first by dragging the decal paper out from under the decal which had been over-sprayed with clear flat to strengthen the decal. I-beams were again sprayed with flat to make sure decals stayed in place and protect the acrylic paint from being scratched off. Beams were cut to length.
